Use and Maintenance of PVC Profile Extrusion Dies

Installation & Commissioning

Cleaning & Inspection: Thoroughly clean the cavities of the calibrator and die before installation. Check the sealing surfaces for any dents or scratches.

Heating: Heat the mold uniformly to the set processing temperature and soak for 30–60 minutes to eliminate thermal stress and ensure consistent thermal expansion.

Alignment: Ensure the centerlines of the extruder barrel, connector, and mold are perfectly aligned on the same axis.

Production Precautions

Water & Vacuum Check: Ensure the cooling water circulation and vacuum lines of the calibrator are clear and free of leaks.

Shutdown Protocol: During temporary shutdowns, quickly clear residual PVC from the die or lower the temperature and inject protective lubricants to prevent PVC decomposition into HCl, which can corrode the mold.

Smooth Adjustment: When adjusting flow rates, turn the bolts in small increments. Violent hammering is strictly prohibited.

Disassembly & Cleaning

Hot Disassembly: Molds should generally be disassembled while hot. Use copper scrapers or copper brushes for cleaning.

No Steel Tools: Strictly forbid the use of steel screwdrivers or wire brushes on cavity surfaces to avoid permanent scratches.

Flow Channel Protection: After cleaning, apply a thin layer of high-temperature anti-rust oil or silicone oil to the cavity and flow channels.

Maintenance & Long-term Storage

Periodic Polishing: After a production cycle, lightly polish the die flow channels to maintain a mirror finish and reduce friction.

Calibrator Maintenance: Regularly check if the vacuum slots in the calibrator are blocked by precipitates and descale the water channels timely.

Storage Environment: Store in a dry, ventilated area. For long-term storage, spray anti-rust agent on all surfaces and seal with stretch film to prevent moisture-induced oxidation.
