Types of PVC Foam

PVC foaming is primarily categorized into free foaming and skin foaming (Celuka process), with vastly different requirements for the mold's calibration section:
Skin foaming molds (Celuka process):
Formation of a rigid outer layer: A high-strength, water-cooled calibrator is positioned immediately after the die exit. Effective thermal isolation between the calibrator and the die is essential.
Internal foaming: The outer layer of the melt is rapidly cooled and solidified to form a dense, hard skin, while the inner melt expands inward during a slower cooling process, filling the core.
Free foaming molds:
The melt expands freely in the air or between sizing plates after exiting the die; the mold primarily controls the initial exit shape, while the calibration section only needs to control the final thickness and surface flatness of the sheet.
